I'm starting with, I am no expert on this, BUT my family and I have gone through the cleanse before.
Candida is a sneaky little bugger! First off, candida is not supported by the mainstream medical doctors . So to find help in this area you have to go to a specialist. I found an excellent functional medicine Doctor in my area at the time. She was recommended by so many people.
I won't go into what candida is, you can read about it here. I will tell you our experience.
Starting two years ago I had so many different symptoms: very tired, stomach aches, craving to chew ice, waves of nausea here and there, no energy, fuzzy tongue, hair loss, joint pain (especially in the morning). I went to see a doctor about a on going pain in my abdomen, right under my left rib. The doctor tested my blood and found my candida was pretty high, along with other problems. Which, to me personally, I think the candida was causing other problems in my body, i.e.-anemia. She then put me on the anti-candida diet and some supplements. My doctor said we would try the diet for 4-6 months. To see how well I was doing, the docotr did a blood test every month.
I used this diet on the whole family as well. My husband is pretty much paleo, so he was fine. But, what it did for my daughter was wonders! She is a teenager, so her acne when away, no more stomach aches and her eczema stopped flaring up! It really did something for her. As for me, the first thing I notice was my animia was gone! No more ice chewying. My joints no longer hurt when i woke up and got out of bed, my head was clear of fog, and so much more.
We started the cleanse, with hesitation of coarse! I always say, "I'm a baker! I love my carbs!" The first month was brutal. My daughter and I were angry. Angry we couldn't have bread, irritated because of nothing! Also, I didnt know how to cook/bake without carbs. But, soon after I figured out that I can take a recipe and make it no-carb friendly.
By the second and third month we were on a roll. I do have to say, we had some cheat days. This showed up on my blood test, my candida numbers were slightly high again.
In the end, 5 months in, I was moving and did not finish my cleanse. I will be doing the cleanse again starting January 2021. If you are interested in trying this cleanse and need support, please reach out! I know it would help me keep on track.
Some recommendations:
Clear your house of any carbs if possible.
